How to get around the city?
Public transport includes 17 trams, 9 trolleybuses and 59 buses lines provided by Ostrava City Transportation Company (Dopravni podnik Ostrava).
To use any of their services, passengers have to have a ticket. Long-term one or short-term one. Short-term tickets (10 min = 14 CZK, 30 min = 20 CZK, 60 min = 26 CZK, 24 hrs = 80 CZK) can be purchased in most of the news agents or in vending machines at many of the stops. These tickets have to be validated in the electronic machine immediately after boarding the vehicle.
You can also buy a ticket through a mobile phone. Just send a message ‘DPO70’ to 90230. It costs you 27 crowns and is valid for 70 minutes (during weekends for 90 minutes).
Long-term tickets can be purchased at the train stations or at Public Transport Ticket Offices (for example at Husuv Sad in the city centre).
Students who are less than 26 years old need to buy electronic card, making of which lasts usually around two weeks. If you start arranging it after your arrival to Ostrava, you will have to buy first temporary paper one without student discount which is 550 CZK. Solution to saving these 550 CZK is arranging the card now online among instruction.
